Concrete tile, terracotta or Colorbond — we work on all of it
The Blue Mountains housing stock spans all three. Each fails differently — and each gets fixed differently.
Concrete Tile Roofs
The dominant roof type across Springwood, Lawson, Hazelbrook and the lower Mountains. Concrete tile typically needs restoration at 15–25 years: the surface becomes porous and the ridge mortar cracks with frost, allowing water to track behind the point. The right fix is re-bedding, flexible repointing and a two-coat restoration system — not simply a coat of paint over failing mortar.
Terracotta Tile Roofs
Common on pre-1960 homes in Leura, Katoomba and parts of Wentworth Falls — the 'federation' terracotta that gives the upper Mountains its character. Terracotta tiles themselves last a very long time; it's the bedding and pointing that fails first. Many terracotta roofs need ridge work and re-flashing rather than replacement, preserving the tile at a fraction of the cost.
Metal & Colorbond Roofs
Colorbond performs well in the Blue Mountains — it sheds leaf debris, handles frost without cracking and has no ridge mortar to fail. We install new Colorbond roofs (including tile-to-metal conversions), coat and restore existing metal roofs showing surface oxidation, and repair rusted or damaged panels. A tile-to-Colorbond conversion is one of the most popular upgrades we do in the upper Mountains.

Do you work on both tile and metal roofs?
Yes — the Blue Mountains has both, and they fail differently. Concrete and terracotta tile roofs need re-bedded ridge caps, repointing with flexible compound, and a two-coat restoration system when the surface is still structurally sound. Metal and Colorbond roofs need rust treatment, resealing of laps and screws, and coating when the surface is salvageable — or full panel replacement when it isn't. One team, both materials, honest advice on which path is right for your roof.
Can you handle the whole job — no separate trades?
For the vast majority of jobs, yes. We handle the full scope ourselves: cleaning, tile work, ridge capping, sarking, flashings, gutters, downpipes and coatings. Where skylights need a glazier or solar panels need an accredited electrician for removal and reinstallation, we coordinate those as part of the quote so you have one point of accountability.
Can you tell me which service I need over the phone?
Not reliably — and we won't pretend otherwise. Whether a roof should be restored, repaired or replaced depends on what's actually there, and the difference isn't visible from the ground or a photo. Our free on-roof inspection solves this: we get up, photograph what we find, and give you a written verdict with our recommendation. No obligation, and it takes the guesswork out of the decision.
My roof has several issues — do I need separate quotes for each?
No. One inspection covers everything. Your written quote itemises the full scope — ridge capping, tile replacements, valley repairs, coating, gutters, whatever the roof needs — so you can see what each element costs, understand the priority of each repair, and decide what to address now versus later. You get the full picture in one visit.
We're on tank water — does that affect what products you use?
Yes, and it's something we plan for. Many Blue Mountains homes rely on rainwater tanks, and we use potable-water-safe coating systems when that's the case. Tell us at the quote stage (or any time before the job) and we'll specify accordingly and manage first-flush diversion after the coating is applied.
